Lost My Browser

It happened again. My Firefox decided to reset itself. All the tabs, settings, extensions, everything, gone.

This is the second time that this has happened. The first one was actually not from Firefox itself, but it’s amazing fork, Zen Browser.

I remember the first time I lost all my data in Zen browser it kind of just happened and I wasn’t too keen on that so I just immediately uninstalled Zen browser and used Firefox.

I chalked it up to be a buggy code and unfinished state of Zen browser. But alas, it happened again on the browser that Zen Browser is based on.

And this time, I think I actually lost everything. like.. When I opened up the profile manager, it has three profiles and each of them doesn’t contain any extensions whatsoever. It’s really tough that this happened and I don’t exactly have my userscripts backed up too.

I feel like this didn’t happen immediately because I restarted my laptop and then it removes all of my stuff. Prior to the restart, I installed Zotero around eight hours before i restarted. And, at the time, It worked fine until it prompted to install the Zotero Connector (a browser extension), it will open up a blank Firefox window. Which is weird but I really didn’t think much of that.

I didn’t start out wanting to install the extention on Firefox since I use Helium for my “work” work work and I don’t know if the reset is actually caused by Zotero but I could have seen the signs that something is not right and maybe back up my stuff.

I still have bookmarks and tabs from the account that’s synced from but all the settings and extensions and especially my userscripts are gone.

Firefox itself is pretty good, especially the containers. I used them a lot, but I really couldn’t recommend Firefox if this could happen to anybody. Losing all the data that you saved on the browser that you trust is really insane. Thankfully, I got mine back up, but it still.
